The Zeta Omega Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi erected Miner’s Park in the Town of Big Stone Gap in 1977. This park, which sits in the middle of town, contains a tall statue of a coal miner carrying a pickaxe, a few park benches, and a large wooden stage where several events are held throughout the year. The plaque in front of the statue states that the park is dedicated to the coal miners of America. The plaque includes the names of the members of the Zeta Omega chapter, but no names of coal miners.
